Spring Cleaning? Don’t forget your medicine cabinet!

Spring has sprung, and that means Americans are putting away their winter coats and giving their homes a good, spring cleaning.  One place in your home that might not be on your list as you dust and de-clutter, but should be? The medicine cabinet!  Just like the closet full of sweaters you haven’t worn in years or the freezer full of winter soups, the medicine cabinet should be cleaned out regularly so unused and unwanted medicines don’t collect over time.

Leftover drugs stored in home medicine cabinets can too easily get into the wrong hands.   In fact, according to the Partnership at Drugfree.org, more than four in 10 teens who have misused or abused a prescription drug obtained it from their parents’ medicine cabinet.   Easier access to prescription drugs has contributed to drug overdose deaths surpassing motor vehicle crashes as the leading cause of injury and death in the United States.

Prescription drugs have become a deadly source of addiction for too many Americans.   Fortunately, many local communities now have 24/7 medication disposal sites to collect your unused or expired medications.  Responsible storage and disposal of your prescription medications is essential to keeping our communities healthy and safe.

Nemaha County Hospital has a medication disposal drop box located in the Emergency Room entrance. If you live in a community outside of Nemaha County, you can use this DEA website to find a location nearest you.

long-standing commitment among rural hospitals to deliver high-quality care. We are thrilled to honor this year’s top quartile performers.”

Nemaha County Hospital Earns 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Recognition

Auburn, Nebr. (October 6, 2020) – The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is pleased to announce that Nemaha County Hospital has earned the 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recognition as a certified level 7. The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively healthcare organizations apply core and advanced
technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities.

“Digital technology has been a driver of innovation in healthcare for many years now, but never to the degree that we saw in 2020 with the pandemic,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program underscores why healthcare organizations keep pushing themselves to be digital leaders and shows what amazing feats they can achieve. This certification recognizes their exemplary performance in 2020.”

A total of 30,135 organizations were represented in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired program, which this year included four separate surveys: domestic, ambulatory, long-term care and international. The surveys assessed the adoption, integration and impact of technologies in healthcare organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading.

Each participating organization received a customized benchmarking report, an overall score and scores for individual levels in eight segments: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety. Participants can use the report and scores to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Participants also received certification based on their overall performance, with level 10 being the highest.

“We are honored to receive this special recognition for Most Wired,” said Marty Fattig, Nemaha County Hospital CEO. “Our team works hard to use technologies and strategies when analyzing our data in order to achieve meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes to give our patients quality care every time.”

This is the third year that CHIME has conducted the survey and overseen the program. In each successive year, CHIME has expanded the survey to capture more types of organizations that serve patients across the continuum of care. CHIME also continues to promote the program internationally to provide a global overview of digital health advancements.

As in past years, CHIME will publish an industry trends report based on Digital Health Most Wired responses from U.S. participants. The 2020 National Trends Report is scheduled to be released in November during CHIME20 Digital.

Nemaha County Hospital Partners With State To Expand Testing

Nebraska scaling widespread COVID-19 testing through TestNebraska

Auburn, NE (August 25, 2020) – Today, Nemaha County Hospital announced a partnership with the State of Nebraska to provide free COVID-19 testing for eligible residents. Nebraskans can take an online assessment through the TestNebraska portal at TestNebraska.com to determine eligibility. Nemaha County Hospital will be hosting the weekly drive-through test collection for TestNebraska on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nebraskans have been asking for more widespread access to testing. The State’s partnership with Nomi Health provides Nemaha County Hospital with access to a pre-existing supply chain of effective testing, project management, and clinical expertise which allows the hospital staff to take care of the community’s need. Hospitals and public health systems across the state needed immediate access to scarce resources, high-quality testing equipment and an efficient process, which this partnership delivers.

Marty Fattig, CEO of Nemaha County Hospital commented, “We are happy to join with Test Nebraska and three other hospitals in Southeast Nebraska to provide access to readily available COVID-19 testing in our area. Through better testing we can better control the spread of this virus and slow the spread of the pandemic.”

Upon registration through the TestNebraska.com website, patients will be given an appointment time, and receive their identification barcode. This identification barcode will be required for testing. All TestNebraska patients will need to enter through the lower north parking lot and continue around to the west side of the hospital. There will be a TestNebraska volunteer directing patients to the correct area. Please do not try to enter through the south Emergency Entrance as it is only available to Emergency Vehicles.
